Hyundai has become one of Houston’s most common sights — Sonatas running the daily commute, Tucsons hauling families across town. They’re well-built cars, but a collision repair done wrong can undo that engineering fast. Hyundai updated its position statements in 2025 with stricter rules on scans and heat repair, and we follow every one of them.

The damage we see most on Hyundais

Rear-end taps and bumper sensors

Sonatas and Tucsons collect rear-end taps in Houston traffic. Behind the bumper cover sit the reinforcement and, on equipped models, rear parking and blind-spot sensors. Hyundai requires pre- and post-repair scans — a bumper job isn’t finished until the scan confirms every sensor is talking to the car correctly.

Front-end hits and driver-assistance calibration

Hyundai’s driver-assistance systems use radar and camera sensors mounted in the grille, bumper, and windshield areas. Any front-end collision — or even a bumper cover removal and reinstall — can throw those sensors out of aim. We recalibrate to Hyundai specification and verify with post-repair scans, because uncalibrated driver assistance is a safety failure, not a cosmetic issue.

Side swipes and structural steel

Parking-lot side swipes on a Sonata or Tucson can reach rockers and pillars. Hyundai’s 2025 heat-repair statement draws a hard line: heat up to 400°C may be used to straighten mild or high-strength steel structural parts only — and then the part must be replaced, not reused. No heat ever on ultra-high-strength steel, and no heat on non-structural outer panels like doors, hoods, fenders, or quarter panels. Cold straightening is allowed on mild and high-strength steel; ultra-high-strength parts get replaced at factory seams.

Wheel and suspension-adjacent damage

Curb strikes and pothole-adjacent hits can damage wheels and the structure around them. Hyundai prohibits reconditioned steel or aluminum wheels — a bent wheel gets replaced with a proper wheel, not straightened and reused.

Hyundai factory repair procedures — why they matter

Hyundai’s position statements set the rules we build every estimate on:

Our estimates follow these procedures — per Hyundai’s official owner resources and collision information — so your insurer sees the factory requirement, not our opinion.

What affects your repair cost and timeline

Ultra-high-strength steel parts can’t be repaired with heat — they get replaced at factory seams, which is the only Hyundai-approved path and takes the time it takes. Scan and calibration steps are non-rushable. Bumper and scrape jobs typically run 1–3 days, panel work 2–4 days, structural work with recalibration 5–8 days. Every estimate includes a real timeline in writing.

Insurance claims on your Hyundai

We work with all major insurance companies and handle the photos, paperwork, and supplements for you. When an adjuster questions a scan charge or a part replacement, we show them Hyundai’s written position statements. Texas law protects your right to choose your own shop — choose the one that follows the factory bulletins.

Hyundai FAQs

Why does my Hyundai need scans before AND after the repair?

Because Hyundai requires it — the June 2025 update made pre- and post-repair scans mandatory, not just recommended. The pre-repair scan finds hidden electronic damage; the post-repair scan proves every system, sensor, and module is working before you drive away.

Can a shop use heat to straighten my Hyundai’s frame?

Only within Hyundai’s narrow limits — and never on ultra-high-strength steel or outer body panels. Any part straightened with heat must then be replaced, not reused. If an estimate proposes heating a panel to “save” it, that’s against Hyundai’s written rules.
