Teslas went from novelty to normal on Houston roads in just a few years — Model Ys everywhere from the Galleria to Cypress, in grocery lots and garage condos. And Tesla owners learn something fast: a lot of body shops won’t touch their car. The reasons are real — aluminum panels, parts that only come from Tesla, cameras covering every angle — and they’re exactly why Teslas need Tesla-specific repair procedures, not generic bodywork. We’re a family-owned shop in Houston since 2014, and we repair Teslas to Tesla’s own published body-repair procedures.

The damage we see most on Teslas

Aluminum panels

Many Tesla exterior panels are aluminum, and aluminum doesn’t work like steel. It can’t be heated and pulled back into shape, and it has no “memory” — so sharp creases or stretched areas usually mean replacement, not repair. Tesla’s official Body Repair Procedures on service.tesla.com spell out exactly which panels can be repaired and which must be replaced. If a shop treats your Tesla’s aluminum fender like a steel Honda fender, stop them.

Cameras and Autopilot sensors

Teslas see the road through cameras — front fenders, B-pillars, windshield, rear. Any repair near a camera — which is basically any side or front repair — can shift its aim by a degree or two, enough for persistent errors or phantom braking. Collision work involving the front or rear fascia, fenders, A-pillars, or windshield almost always requires camera recalibration afterward. We confirm every camera reads complete under Controls > Service > Camera Calibration before your car leaves — not a “just drive it and hope” handoff.

Bumper sensors and wiring

There’s no grille and no engine up front — just a bumper cover with sensors behind it. Parking sensors and their wiring live in both bumpers. Bumper replacement on a Tesla is straightforward work, but the sensors transfer over and get tested, because a silent sensor failure shows up at the worst moment.

Tesla factory repair procedures — why they matter

Tesla’s own standards are strict, and they exist for a reason — high-voltage safety and driver-assist reliability:

What affects cost and timeline

Tesla parts come only from Tesla at Tesla’s pricing, which adjusters generally accept without a fight. Hidden sensor and camera damage often shows up at teardown, so supplements are normal on Teslas. Camera and sensor calibration is a dedicated, non-rushable step. Most bumper and panel jobs run a few days; structural or sensor-heavy repairs take longer. Every estimate comes with an honest timeline in writing.

Insurance claims on your Tesla

Tesla Insurance is common in Texas, and we work with them plus all the major carriers. Because supplements are normal on Teslas, we document everything at teardown so nothing gets disputed. And Texas law protects your right to choose your shop — the insurance company can’t force you to use theirs.

Tesla FAQs

Do the cameras really need recalibration after bodywork?

Yes. A windshield removed even briefly, or a front bumper structure deformed and realigned, can leave a camera pointing 1–3 degrees off. Tesla’s calibration stores precise angular offsets for each camera, and the only correct check is Tesla’s own diagnostic confirmation.

Will my insurer cover genuine Tesla parts?

Tesla-approved parts are the only option per Tesla’s own standards — there’s no aftermarket alternative Tesla allows. Adjusters know this and generally don’t fight it.

Can you repair structural damage on my Tesla?

We’re straight with every Tesla owner: cosmetic bodywork — bumpers, dent repair, panel replacement — by an experienced shop with aluminum expertise and Tesla’s official procedures is quality work. Structural repairs and anything involving the high-voltage system follow Tesla-specific procedures, and we’ll tell you honestly what we do in-house and what needs a Tesla-authorized specialist.
